More often
than we like to believe,
we major in Diversions,
make Diversions our life work.
Relentless routines, the job,
fear of failure or obsession
with success, hope
torn apart, dreams dissolved,
the all inclusive tableau
of our lives
demand Diversion.
Perhaps if we earnestly confronted
that leak, the faulty step,
dirty dishes in the sink, the cold sore
on our relationship with... you name it,
him, her, it, them, the world,
we could make headway,
proclaim -- by God,
I did it!
But no, those brambles
turn our wary feet the other way,
the safer path to --
bless their welcoming hearts --
