The weather was perfect, warm and the skies were blue. We couldn't ask for anything better. On September 14, 2002 the families of Sears and Dyer Avenue gathered for the annual Block Party. The street was cordoned off by "horses" supplied by the Melrose Police Department and the fun commenced at 5:00 p.m.
Mary Ellen, Wig, Mary This party has taken place for the last 20 years; started by Mary Sexton, our local realtor, and Tricia Gosselin. Mary obtained the permit and the barricades and William "Wig" Spaulding supplied the music heard from his home. There was food and drink of all kinds, Sangria, Wine, and soft drinks for the children. Also many munchies for pre-dinner snacks. Many grills were set up for the meats to be cooked, and an abundance of desserts. All of these items were brought by the people attending. The guests were Scott and Karen with their children Helen and Parker. Marisa and Bill with sons Chris and Scott. Lennie and Loretta, whose children are grown and moved away. Jose and Barbara with Carlos and Clara. Jan and David Wyant. Barbara Morrison and husband. The children amused themselves with scooters and tricycles and just "being children" During the festivities, a tour bus pulled up to pick up a group of young men who were going to a "stag" party. We all advised them to have fun, but to be careful. After catching up on the news of our neighbors, and filling our stomachs with all the goodies, the evening came to a resounding close with a round of fireworks at 9:00 p.m. As the old adage goes -- "A good time was had by all" Jose and Barbara October 4, 2002
