Giving thanks at
  Milano Senior Center

from the SilverStringers

The Thanksgiving Dinner prepared for Melrose's Senior Citizens at the Milano Senior Center on Nov. 21st truly fulfilled its purpose. Jack Beckley, Executive Director of the Melrose Council on Aging, welcomed everyone and introduced visiting Mayor Robert J. Dolan who visited with those sitting at the nearby tables. Beatrice Wadland was asked to read George Washington's address on the first Thanksgiving, designated to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. She led everyone in a prayer of thanks for many thngs, including the day's sumptuous dinner which was served by volunteers.

... Girl Scouts create favors ...

Decorating the round tables at each seasonal place setting was a lovely round glass container, trimmed with autumn leaves and tied 'round the top, just below the ruffled edging, with several strands of rustic weed-stems. Inside was a printed label showing that the gift-givers were the Lincoln School Girl Scouts, Troop numbers 1229, 1232, 1225 & 1220. Sincere thanks go out to those creative girls and their two known leaders, Maria Kendricken, and Beth Hatfield, and others who were involved.
