FREE WELLNESS CHECKS - Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Melrose/Boston VNA Nurse Cynthia Giansiracuso provides free health checks at the Milano Senior Center including pressures, weights and more. Please drop in; appointments are not necessary.

PODIATRY Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, Dr. Robert J. Connolly, D.P.M. provides foot care & consultations at moderate cost ($25). Appointments (781-662-6886) are required and can be made on or after the 1st of the month. Melrose residents receive preference.

ARTHRITIS SUPPORT GROUP No Arthritis Support Group meetings January - March. Next meeting Friday, April 23, 2004; Acupunture - the old, new medicine by Mimma Mogavero, Lic.Ac., MAOM.

Regularly Scheduled Classes


Yoga 8:45 a.m. with Trudy MacDonald. $30 for 8 sessions or $5 drop-in. Next series starts on January 5. Yoga for physical, mental and spiritual well being.

Stringer Editors 9-12 noon.

Beginners Line Dancing  10:00 a.m. with Steve White. $3 fee.  Fun and great exercise.

Senior Chorus 10 a.m. Under the direction of Starr Demitre.  Practices are held at the First Congregational Church on West Foster Street in donated space. New members welcome. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Melrose Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Sunshine Girls Bridge 12:30 a.m.

Line Dancing 1:30 p.m. with Anne MacGillivray. $3. Fun and great exercise.  


Prime Time Fitness 8:30 a.m. Exercise to a video. No charge.

Art Workshop 9 a.m. with Bill Kadlec. Workshop for enthusiastic people with some painting or drawing experience.   $5 fee.

Handcrafts 10 a.m. Join the fun.
Line Dancing 10 a.m. Instruction by Steve White $3.

Sunshine Boys Bridge 12:30 p.m. New members welcome.

Cribbage/Board Games 12:30 p.m. Join us!

Silver Singles 2 p.m. Meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. Women meet to socialize and arrange to do things together. New members are always welcome.


Bridge Club 9 a.m. New members are always welcome. Recent winners include Esther Snow, 1st & Frank Cain, 2nd; Betty Whalen, 1st & Jean Pulsifer, 2nd.

Duplicate Bridge 9 a.m. Played the first Wednesday of the month. Recent winners: Mary Mihaljan & Norma Bellemare, N & S; Al Mandracchia & David Marshall, E & W.
Silver Stringers 1:30 p.m. Writers and people with many other talents combine to put out the "Melrose Mirror" an Internet publication. The site is: http://silverstringer.media.mit.edu. New members with an interest in writing, reporting, photography, editing, etc. are cordially invited.  


Tai Chi Chaun 9:00 a.m. with Rick Wong. New series starts January 29th. However, you can come anytime and your cost will be prorated. $25 for 8 sessions. Tai Chi helps with balance flexibility and strength.

Chair Caning 9 a.m. Come cane a chair. Members are glad to show you how.
Council On Aging Meeting  9:30 a.m. Meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Piano Instruction 1:00 p.m. with Dorothy Travis. No class January 15th.

Strong Bone Exercise 3:00 p.m. with Susan Decolaines.  Prevents osteoporosis!

MVES Ready to Help

Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) provides information, services, and resources to elders and caregivers in Melrose. The agency helps elders live safely in their homes through comprehensive programs -- most of which are low-cost or even free. Among our services are home care management, money management advisors, caregiver support, general information, volunteer opportunities, home-delivered meals, and providing daily meals at senior dining sites. Massachusetts Senior Games

Registrations are now being accepted for this year's Senior Games. Cross Country and Snowshoe competitions will be held in Fitchburg on January 17 (snow date January 24). Downhill skiing will be held at Wachusett Mountain on February 11 (snow date Feb. 12). Hockey will be held in April.
