Even though I am past 80 years old, I try to do a few exercises daily. Only thing that prevents this is when it is really cold or snowing.
Usually I select a couple of the exercises we did when I was in the Navy. Touch toes, jackknife, stepping out, jumping up and down, swinging my arms as I did it. Not for long, maybe 5-15 minutes. I then trot from my house to the corner and back. Not far, but my heart speeds up and that is the object in my doing exercises. May give me a few extra years provided it doesn't kill me. I finished my calisthenics; touching my toes (nearly) and kicking my hand. (No rifle like we used back then) I then started the trot. Coming back a neighbor and a friend with a dog came out, said hi. Talking with her as I moved toward my house, I wasn't thinking of the dog, didn't even see it. Suddenly I stumbled on the dog, then stepped on the dog that began yelping. I fell. Fortunately I had glasses holder or would have probably lost them. Stopped the fall with my right hand, and left knee. Hurt like all get out. The cut on my hand was full of sand and started to bleed. Looked at my left knee. A hole in my pants, also my long johns, which were red with blood already. Both ask if I was ok and I said yes, limped home, removing sand from the cut on my hand. My hand was bleeding pretty good, running up my arm. My knee stung but I could not see it. Washed my hand first, used Kleenex to wipe the sand from the cut under the water until it was clean then put Nupercainal ointment on it. Dropped my pants then my long johns, which were covered in blood. Took awhile to get all the sand out and pulled the piece of skin back and washed it good. The water stung, but I got it clean. Pushed the piece of skin back and put a glob of ointment on the cut, pushed the skin in and rubbed around until it was flat. Covered with two Band-Aids. Slowly pulled my long johns and pants on, put a glob on the hand and a band-aid. Didn't hurt, just stung a little. Had a smoke, and limped up and down the driveway until I could nearly walk naturally. Finished the smoke went back to work on my web site. Had a small problem. Using the mouse, ointment oozed out was all over the area around my mouse. Cleaned my work area, put another glob on with two Band-aids on my hand and back to work. No problems. My knee ached a little, but that was to be expected. During the night I woke up with shooting pain around the cut. Walked around awhile then back to bed. The pain woke me up several times. No idea why it hurt so bad. Next morning I cleaned it again, more ointment and band-aids and no more pain and it is healing nicely now. The layer of skin is attached already on both cuts, I can walk normally again. They say exercise is good for you but I learned from all this to be careful when I see anyone with dogs.
