Our chipmunk is back

... been several years since we had chipmunks in the yard.

Chipmunk - A small, striped ground squirrel.

Been playing at the PC for couple of hours and about noon, went out for a smoke. Lit up and sat on the steps, glad it was beginning to cool off a bit. Started to get up when my eye noticed something move on the wall. Looked, but didn't see anything. A few minutes later it moved again and I was surprised to see a chipmunk sitting on a stone. He was well camouflaged with the bushes behind him.

It has been several years since we had any chipmunks in the yard. They and the birds, robins, cardinals, chickadees, juncos, titmouse and lord knows what else  disappeared when a new neighbors moved in with a couple of cat.

I grabbed my camera and took several pictures to show Lil when she came home. Went in and got a few crackers covered with peanut butter and put on the wall after he left with a handful of bird seed. Sat awhile waiting for him to show up, but he didn't.

Went in and stood at the window a few minutes then back to the PC. Got up a couple of times to see if he had found the food. Finally he was there, his cheeks swollen with the crackers and bird seed. Got my camera again and walked up to within about ten feet of where he was and got a few more photos. He didn't move, but his pouches were really puffed out. I watched until he left.

Lil and I checked now and then and on the next day but did not see him. It was not quite as warm and maybe he didn't like the cold weather. Both of us checked now and then for a couple of days and finally Lil saw him.

Thought he was living in one of the blocks but apparently he set up housekeeping behind the garage.

I guess the disappearance of the two cats encouraged wildlife to visit my feeder again. Oh yeah, before you get the wrong idea, I had nothing to do with the disappearance of the cats. Am glad they are not around any longer though.
