The Massachusetts Silver Haired Legislature held its monthly meeting on October 19 at the State House. The meeting was highlighted by guest speaker Bill Allan from the Disabilities Policy Consortorium in his presentation of a device that was designed by a pharmacist known as the "Talking Rx" which can significantly improve health literacy and reduce medical noncompliance by helping patients identify their medications and understand physician directions for taking them properly.
The device has application to a wide variety of population groups, including seniors, those with vision limitations and those for whom English is not their primary language.
Small print and look-alike packaging of medicine vials can lead to confusion, non-compliance and mistakes. Misjudgments of medications can lead to serious adverse effects.
So, enter the "Talking RX" to solve the problem. "Hear" the directions. The device is small enough to carry in a pocket or handbag. The price is as low as approximately $10.00.
Consult with your pharmacist or visit Walgreens if you wish to purchase the device.
