The Massachusetts Silver-haired Legislature reconvened their monthly meetings on Tuesday, March 15 at the State House in Boston. Massachusetts Home Care Executive Director, Al Norman honored the meeting as special guest addressing current issues concerning seniors' quality of life and introduced the requests for the FY 2006 budget.
Among the priority concerns at the top of the list is an alternative to nursing homes and a new adult foster care model allowing friends and family members to become paid caregivers. In addition, a low income form of assisted living, adding services to public housing and an increase in funding to protective services was placed in the budget. Increased funding was also requested to cover the cost of adding eight new investigators and two supervisors to keep up with the case load growth, abuse hotline and guardianship.
The Silver-haired Legislators presented these issues to their respective Senators and Representatives and would like to encourage all seniors to contact their respective legislators to help support these requests.
