Customizing the Links Bar

... no searching for frequently used sites

by Bob Ross

Maybe some of you are like me... Lazy. Anything I can do to save time and effort, I attempt to do.

I was reading Windows XP2 help and came across something you can use to save time.
For those of you are like me, give these tips a try. Amazing how fast you can get things done.

Have you ever used the "Link Bar"?
The Link Bar in Internet Explorer is located under the Address bar in the Toolbar.

If the Links bar does not appear on the toolbar, on the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Links. You also can organize your links by dragging them to a different location on the Links bar.

Did you know that you can customize the Links bar in the browser? You can add or remove shortcuts, rearrange the order of shortcuts, and even change the icons associated with them.
Here's how:

To add a shortcut to the Links bar
Drag the Web page's icon from the Address bar directly to the Links bar. Or drag any link from a Web page, your Favorites bar, or your desktop onto the Links bar.

To remove a shortcut from the Links bar
Right-click the shortcut, and then click Delete.

To rearrange shortcuts on the Links bar
Drag a shortcut to a new place on the Links bar.

To customize shortcuts on the Links bar
Right-click the shortcut, and then click Properties. Here you can click the Change Icon button to select a different icon for the shortcut.

Note: If the Links bar is not visible, click the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Links. Or, Right click on any menu bar and select link.

An addition for November 4, 04 PC Tips: Email Folders

In the Nov 4, 2004 tip I talked about setting up and viewing your Email folders so they can be hidden. I found this, which is even better than all the clicking.

Open your Email - On the Toolbar, Right click a blank space.
In the drop down menu, click customize. A window opens.
In the left frame items that can be added.
In the right frame items that you now have on tool bar.
In the left frame, scroll or use down arrow key and find Folder List.
Click Add in middle.
Folder List now in Right frame at the bottom.
You can relocate by clicking on it, click the Up button to move to new location.
While there, you can rearrange current tools to location you want them in. click close when finished.
To use, just chick to open or close folder list.
