Well, take a last look at the old gymnasium at Melrose High -- or do we call it the Middle School gym these days. Perhaps the Daffinee Gym. At any rate, at a week before publication, there was a giant hole in the back wall and young athletes were competing to see who could heave a rock high enough and hard enough to break one of the glass-bricks at the very top. The SilverStringers' memories generally date back to the old-old gym, attached directly to the original 1933 version of Melrose High. It's all bound for glory, to be replaced by something seven feet higher. No more wet sneakers.
