Images of November

A Court of Honor was held in October to award the coveted Eagle Medal to Melrose Scout Nicholas Pellegrino of Irving Street. A senior at Malden Catholic High School, Nick is the son of Paula and Paul Pellegrino. Among guests at the St. Mary's ceremony were Representative Michael Festa and three former Scouts who earned the Eagle Badge: Rory Hatfield, in 2001 (and still active in Scouting); Don Norris, in 1945; and John Cahill, age 96, who was awarded his medal in 1927. .

Published the first Friday of each month by the SilverStringers of Melrose, Massachusetts -- November 4, 2005

NOSTALGIA: The date is October 23, 2005. The picture is the current condition of Melrose High School, ca1932, taken from the top of the football stands. On the top floor I can see the lab where Harold Poole taught chemistry, Dave Hoyle taught biology, and the classroom where Miss Amy Damon taught English. On the second floor I can make out the room where Miss Alice Heald taught French and Mr. Warren Nash introduced us to Russian. At the right is all that remains of Doc Clark's original gymnasium, and below that, the woodworking shop and classrooms of Coach Dave Gavin and Stan Battles. We have no story on the demise of the old building for this issue, but we do have several other linked photos showing the "progress" of demolition. Just click on the big picture.
