Since summer is over and I've been thinking about writing my full memories, I haven't even mentioned my being a Girl Scout, working to get all those badges and going to a Girl Scout camp on the Cape, sleeping in a tent, and I didn't know anyone. I was the only one from my troop that went.
It was a lovely pond and we went swimming, hiking and all the usual Girl Scout camping activities to pass badges. But my problem was that mail call was at 9 a.m. after breakfast. We sat in a circle and I nearly died. I kept getting presents every day from home, plus letters. Everyone wondered who I was. It was very embarrassing. When we went to bed a few nights later I didn't know what was the matter with my bed. I couldn't get into it. Well, the campers had short-sheeted the bed. They all laughed like mad and I had to remake the bed. I called my mother on the telephone and told her no more mail or presents for me because the other campers were making fun of me. Well, the family tried to make it up to me and I didn't get any more mail. Someone must have spoken to the campers because at last I was having a good time and we all became friends. January 6, 2006
