Vets replace stolen plaque at Knoll

from the SilverStringers

Thieves have developed a new specialty: Brass attacks. Within the past few months, numerous brass plaques about town have been chieseled off their rock base -- presumably by one dedicated group of thieves. The theory is that it's the cost of the brass, not the message, that is important to the perps. Nor is Melrose unique in this new rash of bandetry -- other north shore towns have been similarly denuded. Meanwhile, the veterans organizations have replaced this one at the Knoll: It's message reads ...

"As we pause and meditate
let us pray to the father of us all
for a united world
free from strife and hatred."
