Melrose's top seniors ...

... lauded for life style

from the SilverStringers

Ross Capobianco, executive director of Home Instead Senior Care, played a key part in the new program "Seven Over 70". The final list of seven Melrose seniors was made from nominating applications, and included Rosemary Behrle, Mary Hicks, Rita Quinn Detrich, Preston Johnson, Jim Murphy, Lorraine Hanson and Christine Grant. Also sponsoring the program were the Melrose Free Press and Square One Mall.

Melrose paid significant hommage to its seniors last month with a contest to select "Seven over 70" -- honoring elders who have played a bigger part in the welfare of our city and its residents.

Nominations, in the form of a one-page piece, were solicited for the prior month, and according to Carol Ball, editor of the sponsoring Melrose Free Press, there were numerous entries. The Free Press and second sponsor, Home Instead Senior Care of Melrose, provided the judging. Nearby Square One Mall also provided support.

The finale was held June 14 at the Milano Senior Center, to a full house in the Tierney Meeting Hall. The nominations were read by Ms Ball, Ross Capobiano, executive director of Home Instead, and the friends and family members of the winning entries.

Presentations were made by Mayor Rob Dolan and Jack Beckley, executive director of the Melrose Council on Aging. Those honorees are listed, individually, in the Special Section, front page of today's Mirror.
