Gramma's Bread

... as told to me by my Uncle Richard

by Betty Rossi

My Italian Grandmother used to make this wonderful bread that we would eat after a huge Sunday dinner.
9" round tube pan greased
1/2 Cup shortening or butter (we always use the shortening)
3/4 Cup sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons of anise seed
1/2 Cup citron, diced thin
1/4 Cup lemon peel, diced thin
3/4 Cup raisins
2 1/4 Cup flour
2 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
can use walnuts (I don't because my family doesn't want me to use them)

Mix it all together in a big bowl. Pour into the greased tube pan and brush the top with a wash of egg and water.
Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.
