Thoughts while shaving

by Jim Tierney

Remember the rule, 10 O'Clock and 2 O’Clock, gripping the steering wheel while driving? And the only time you took a hand off the wheel (your eyes still on the road) was to whack one of your kids (sight unseen-didn’t matter which kid), in the back seat of the station wagon who were bouncing off the sides and the roof with no seat belts. NOW, the rule seems to have changed to 11 and 1 or is it 9 and 3?. Who has two hands on the wheel these days?

My daughter used to drive with one finger at 6 O’Clock. One hand seems
to be the rule these days because you can’t make a phone call, text, email, video, etc., with both hands on the wheel and if you have a coffee, “look Ma, no hands”. Before the technology age, you made phone calls before you left home and when you arrived at your destination and, if you had to make an “important call” (which were rare..and still are!!) while driving, you pulled over to a payphone. Have you seen a payphone anywhere lately?
