... from a different perspective ...

Ann Robbins Talbot

Safe in the driveway, swaddled in white for the winter months

Covering stretched tightly against the wind, the cold, the rain, the
the city dust

Ready to burst the seams with the joy of impending spring, glorious

An intrusion unwanted, unready, a tear, a rip flapping in the breeze

Unfamiliar hands roughly penetrating my cocoon, carelessly grabbing

Scratching an angry confession on my spotless side

Blood dripping unheeded onto floorboards, cushions, coiled ropes

Silent but stressed, trying to rest on the edge of panic

Hunted, cornered, desperate, he contemplates his future

Within the temporary safety of my shelter
