Melrose spring fling

... and what a time it was

by Shirley Rabb

The  2nd annual spring fling dance was held at Memorial Hall on March 1st. 2015. The snow was flurrying outdoors but it was fun and food and warm inside.

Food catered by Avellino's, a great DJ Dan Maguire, and photographer Olivia Pfeiffer who roamed around taking better pictures than mine.

Thanks go out to Mayor Dolan, the board of aldermen, Kathy Pigott-Brodeur, Melrose Hall operation manager, and our own Executive Director on Council on Aging, Dawn Folopoulos for putting this all together.

There were sponsors that provided desserts and beverages. There were local establishments that provided door prizes and gift baskets. And there was the Melrose community coming to enjoy it all.

The music filled the hall all evening. Cheese and crackers were available for early nibbles before dinner. The dinner was a buffet of assorted Italian food including salad and rolls served by a great group of high school students from Melrose high school and Austin preparatory school.

You could dance to the twist, the stroll, the chicken or just swing your hips and arms about in tune to the music.

The young volunteers danced with the seniors and were suprised at some of our moves.

It was a joyous evening to get us all out of the winter doldrums.

The love of enjoying ourselves by crossing the ages is a wonderful experience.

We look forward to the 3rd Intergenerational Spring Fling next year.
