Born in Westfield, MA on November 20, 1924, Jim Driscoll grew up in Melrose, attended St. Mary's Grammar School and graduated from Melrose High School in 1942. He is from a family of ten children, nine of whom graduated from Melrose High School.

Jim spent three years in the US Navy Amphibious Corps during World War II, as pilot of a Landing Craft Tank (LCT)in the Italy- France areas, including Anzio Beach and participated in the invasions of the Island of Elba and Southern France. A graduate of Boston College in 1951, he was affiliated with the John Hancock Life Company for 33 years, primarily in the areas of market research and sales planning.

As a local volunteer, Jim taught Christian Doctrine classes for ten years at St. Mary's and coached Pop Warner Football. Over the years he has served as principal fund raiser for the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce and the $350,000 campaign on behalf of the Milano Senior Center. Currently, he is with the Council on Aging board and participating in the Center's computer training program as a volunteer peer assistant.

Jim is a father of six children (four girls and two boys) and has eleven grandchildren. Barbara, his wife of 52 years, passed away on January 5, 2005.
